I have seen many great crafts and ideas for teaching the life cycle of a butterfly, but this one was by far one of the cutest. By using a few simple materials you can make this craft to teach and/or help reinforce the life cycle of a butterfly.
You will need: paper plate, green and brown construction paper, marker, rice, pasta (bow tie, spiral, and shell), scissors and glue.
1. Using a marker, separate the paper plate into fourths. Label each section 1, 2, 3, 4. Draw a line next to each number to label each stage.
2. Cut two leaves from the green construction paper and a branch from the brown construction paper. Glue the leaves in sections 1 and 2. Glue the branch in section 3.
3. Glue the rice on the leaf in section 1. Glue the pasta spiral on the leaf in section 2. Glue the shell pasta “hanging” from the brach in section 3. Glue the bow tie pasta in section 4.
4. Label each stage correctly: 1) egg; 2) caterpillar; 3) chrysalis; and 4) butterfly.
5. Decorate as desired.
