This simple Valentine’s Day Animal Craft combines two holidays that fall closely together: Groundhog Day and Valentine’s Day. We made these at school after reading a book together on groundhogs and Groundhog Day. We then reviewed Groundhog Day and Valentine’s Day. Depending on your children’s/students’ ages and/or abilities, you could use a Venn Diagram that focuses on Valentine’s Day and Groundhog Day, as well as groundhogs and other rodents.
You will need: paper hearts in various sizes(1-large, 2-medium, and 1-small); scissors, glue, and crayons.
1. Start by turning the largest heart upside down.
2. Cut one of the medium-size hearts in half and glue each half on the top of the heart (for the ears). Then glue the second medium-sized heart at the bottom of the largest heart (for the mouth and teeth).
3. Glue the smallest heart in the center of the largest heart (for the nose). Add eyes, whiskers, and any other embellishments to personalize your new Valentine’s Day Animal Craft.
